Sara Caporaletti
My panel pictured above is one of over 250 that was included in ArtWatch's One House exhibition at Touchstone Gallery in Washington DC in 2017 and at Black Rock Arts Center in Germantown, MD in 2018.
Each participating artist used a 12" square panel
on which they commemorated an ancestor who came to the USA. The overriding principle of
One House is the vision for a country where
we are united as one rather than divided.
My panel honors both sides of my family with representations of the country flags that each respective family traces its lineage from. A small family tree lists my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents' names and the central focus is a cross shape made from tire rubber to honor my family's Christian roots and my paternal grandfather's tire shop.
